And I thought I'd seen some Bad Roads in my Life.....

It is now Thursday evening in Kisumu and two incredible days have passed...the experiences are coming so fast now that we do not have time to think about what has happened and to report...its just tumbling around in our heads.

On Wednesday we got up early to drive an hour or so to a small church in a very remote area.  This church was started by our pastor in the village and they have about 60 or so members.  We visited them and gave out T shirts and some sweets to the children.  They were so excited!

Then we walked over to one of the prominent ladies' house for lunch.  She has a nice home and the family an important one in the area.  The lunch of chicken, ugali, beans and rice was lovely.  Then we walked back to the main road up one of the worst roads I've ever seen...it looked more like a gully than a road, and in the wet would be unpassable.  I thought it was unpassable in the dry!

We got back to the village and we were exhausted.  We were fed yet another meal and visited in the compound some more.  By the time we left, it was getting dark and coming back to Kisumu via the construction zone was a terrifying experience.  In the dark the dangerous driving increases ten-fold and we hid our eyes many times.  We passed a very serious accident between two Matatus (which are like minivans and the public transportation here)  It scared even our driver who is an experienced driver.  One team member thought it was like going through a war zone! We shakily got out of our van and tumbled into our beds whipped from the day's experiences.

Thursday was spent in Kisumu town shopping and buying supplies for our next big day which is Christmas Eve. This day, being quieter, was lovely in the morning and the evening, when we met an amazing family.  The family that owns an orphanage nearby.  We learnt so much and made a strong connection to them.  We are not going to get the chance to visit the orphanage due to time restrictions, but we learnt alot from them.  In the evening the mother of the family also came and met us and we spent a very pleasant evening on the patio, drinks in hands, a light breeze blowing which occasionally had lightning in the distance and a promise of rain, and soft African music playing in the background.
I think I have fallen in love.
